International Insurance

For a fee, the sender may purchase insurance to protect against loss, damage, or missing contents for Priority Mail Express International and Priority Mail International parcels containing merchandise. Compensation varies according to the fee paid. Insurance fees are in addition to postage and other applicable fees and are based on the insured value. See Notice 123, Price List, for the fee schedule for optional International parcel insurance coverage.

Availability

Insurance is available only for Priority Mail Express International and Priority Mail International parcels and only to certain countries. Insurance availability varies by country, content, and value. See Individual Country Listings. Insurance is not available for the Priority Mail International Flat Rate Envelopes or Small Flat Rate Priced Boxes.

Coverage and Fees

Insurance for Priority Mail Express International shipments provides, at no charge, $200 in insurance for items containing merchandise, or $100 in document reconstruction insurance for items containing only documents. Additional merchandise insurance coverage above $200 ó up to the maximum amount allowed by the country (see the Individual Country Listings) but never to exceed $5,000 ó may be purchased at the senderís option.

Insurance for Priority Mail International merchandise shipments can be purchased up to the maximum amount allowed by the country (see the Individual Country Listings) but never to exceed $5,000 and may be purchased at the senderís option. See the Individual Country Listings for insurance limits.

Return receipt service is the only extra service that mailers may add to Priority Mail International insured items. It is available for an additional fee and is available only to certain countries. See the Individual Country Listings for availability. See IMM Section 340 for additional information about return receipt service. Return Receipts are not available for Priority Mail Express International items.

Indemnity is paid by the U.S. Postal Service as provided in IMM 935 and in DMM 503 and 609.
